Magnificent photograph of Winston Churchill in Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports uniform together with Lady Churchill walking out of Dover Castle.

The verso bears the copyright stamp of “FOX Photos Ltd.,” and the following text:

CINQUE PORTS HONOUR FOR MR. CHURCHILL

With traditional ceremony, Mr. Churchill, Britain’s wartime leader, was today installed as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. Only two commoners have held the appointment. SEE NEWS STORY

Photo shows – the uniform worn by Mr. Churchill for the ceremony added yet another hat to his already famous collection. Here he is seen with Mrs. Churchill during the ceremony.

Additionally, two snippets from newspapers have been pasted on to the back of the photo, both referring to the ceremony at Dover Castle in 1946, and other notations.

Glossy photograph measures approx: 10″x8″.

Several marks around the edges (see image) but this does not mar the actual photograph.

Condition is Excellent.

Churchill was actually appointed to the post of Lord Warden and Admiral of the Cinque Ports (a lifetime appointment) on September 23, 1941 by King George VI. Due to WWII his investiture did not take place till August 14, 1946. At the time he was only the second commoner to hold this honor.
