Welcome
"One of the Largest Private Collections to Come on the Market"Churchill’s Signature on Envelope. 1901
Authentic Signature of Winston Churchill
This envelope, addressed to E.H. Caldbeck Esq. features Churchill’s signature in the bottom left corner.
Dated Nov. 27 1901, envelope with 1d lilac, from Stoke-on-Trent to an address in London where it was redirected (in red pen) to E.H. Caldbeck Esq. of the 4th Hussars, Churchill’s old regiment.
The envelope (approx. 5.5″x4″) is secured to a white board (approx. 7.5″x5.5″) presumably to protect and/or display this envelope with Churchill’s Signature. After all, it is 120 years old. The envelope sits on top of a red card slightly larger than the envelope itself to add a ‘border’ to the envelope.
An interesting piece of history from the London Gazette Jan 4th 1901: (middle of column 2)
“The promotion to the rank of Lieutenant of Second Lieutenant E. H. Caldbeck is antedated to 20th May, 1900, vice H. G. Watkin.”
An authentic early Churchill Signature.
