Churchill Nobel Prize for Literature Scrapbook

Scrapbook – Churchill’s Nobel Prize Award

A large scrapbook, bound in full red morocco with raised bands. It is stored in a  slipcase.
Churchill Arms in gilt on the front.
Measures approx: 10″ x 14″

Winston Churchill was awarded the 1953 Nobel Prize for Literature. Since Churchill was unable to attend the ceremony due to his commitment as P.M., Lady Churchill and Mary, their daughter travelled to Stockholm to accept the Nobel Prize on his behalf.

The scrapbook is filled with clippings from Swedish newspapers and magazines pertaining to the 1953 Nobel prize ceremony. Also included are letters and notes pertaining to Capt. Bertil Sterner’s visit to Chartwell in 1954. (Sterner was Churchill’s Swedish publisher.) Additionally there’s a thank you note from Clementine Churchill and 9pp. of transcripts of discussions at Chartwell (in Swedish). All documents are facsimile copies.

These were all sent to the compiler, Mr. Herbert Bexelius in 1954.

An unusual ephemeral item.

Price: $450
