"One of the Largest Private Collections to Come on the Market"Sir David Beatty, Admiral of the Fleet: 3 Original Photographs
Three Fine Photographs of Sir David Beatty
Sir David Beatty, GCB, OM, GCVO, DSO, PC. 1871-1936,
Admiral of the Fleet, 1919-1927
Each photograph laid down on stiff card
Each measures 5.5″ x 7.5″
The photographs, taken from close by, show Beatty on the bridge with two other senior officers.
In the first Beatty appears to be commenting on some ship’s maneuver, in the second all three are looking even more closely, the other two with binoculars, and in the third Beatty is waving his cap in acknowledgment.
No place, no date, although research gives clues as to where these photos were taken. Beatty flew his Flag in Aboukir at the Fleet maneuvers of July 1912, which may have been when these photos were taken.
Beatty’s Naval career began in 1884 as a Royal Navy Officer. In 1919 he was promoted to Admiral of the Feet, a position he held longer than any other First Sea Lord. He retired in 1927. Read more about Sir David Beatty
